The “W” is probably the most common exercise we give our Chiropractic clients at Redefined Health in Edmonton, AB. This is a great one shot exercise that helps to counteract the postural stress of modern life and many flexion dominant sports like hockey and baseball. Like many early rehabilitative exercises, it is important to have perfect quality as the goal is to re-train movement patterns and muscle firing patterns. It is not so much about developing strength, but developing a proper foundation to build strength. This will allow better strength development in the future. The “W” is a great exercise to recruit the posterior muscles, open up the chest and get your neck in proper postural alignment. This can help prevent problems associated with postural overuse as well.
