Plantar Fasciitis

What is plantar fasciitis?

The plantar fascia is a thick band of tissue running across the bottom of the foot, connecting the heel bone to the toes.  When inflamed, this can develop into a condition known as plantar fasciitis.

Common Symptoms

The most common symptom of plantar fasciitis is pain within the first steps of the morning, typically on the inside part of the bottom of your heel.

Causes

Plantar fasciitis is most commonly caused by repetitive strain to the ligament of the sole of the foot (plantar fascia).  This could be caused by excessive running or walking, inadequate footwear, or a jumping injury from landing.

Treatment

The treatment of plantar fasciitis involves a combination of techniques that adjust the feet and ankles.  This can involve soft tissue techniques to the foot and calf and assessment of the entire kinetic chain.
