Massage

The registered massage therapists at Redefined Health are trained to customize a treatment to fit your specific needs, ailments or athletic goals.  Massage can be used to decrease pain, increase muscle flexibility, decrease stress levels, and improve posture.  It is an excellent addition to chiropractic or acupuncture treatment. Please let us know if you have any questions relating to massage therapy.

Redefined Health offers various types of massage therapy

Therapeutic massage – treatments are focused to improving a specific area of discomfort. This treatment would focus on reducing pain, improving range of motion.  This style of treatment can be used to treat both chronic and acute conditions.

Sports Massage – pre and post race/event techniques are used to assist the athlete to reach their full potential. This includes increasing range of motion, increasing muscle flexibility and helping the athlete eliminate soreness. Massage can be performed before and after a race.  It can also be used as a preventative tool to avoid injury during an athlete’s regular training routine.

Pregnancy Massage –treatments are focused on assisting women during their pregnancy while alleviating any discomfort she may be experiencing.  All of our therapists are trained to provide a safe pregnancy massage.

Deep Tissue Massage – a form of massage therapy used to target the deeper levels of muscle and connective tissues.  Deep tissue massage works within each client’s pain tolerance, ensuring the best treatment possible.

Relaxation Massage – promotes mental and physical relaxation. This style of massage improves circulation, can ease sore or tense muscles.  This style of treatment is often performed to the full body to achieve maximum relaxation.

Soft Tissue Therapy

Soft tissue therapy is a general term referring to various specific muscle lengthening (or muscle stretching) techniques designed to relax short and overly contracted bands of muscle usually present after an injury that involved trauma, repetitive use or sustained load due to things like poor posture. Soft tissue issues and injuries can also develop from poor movement patterns, muscular imbalance, or improperly functioning joints.

Muscle Stretching Techniques

Forcing a muscle or any other soft tissue to lengthen or relax without addressing why it was unhealthy in the first place does not make sense. You will find yourself fighting against your body and the results will often be disappointing. If a muscle is tight because it is inhibited (shut off) or weak and we force it to relax without addressing the imbalance, results will be temporary even with the most effective soft tissue therapy techniques. Most of the time, your body is making an intelligent “choice” given the situation it is in with respect to what tissues are tight.

If your brain wants a muscle to be tight, it is going to be tight and stay that way until you address the reason it is tight. This is why exercise rehabilitation is essential to any treatment plan and should focus on restoring proper movement patterns, as well as muscle strength and balance. This is also why addressing any problems with joint function is important.

Other techniques that can be very effective for soft tissue mobilization include acupuncture and IMS therapy, which both use dry needling, as well as various instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) techniques like Graston or Active Release Technique, and various massage therapy techniques like myofascial release, muscle energy technique, soft tissue mobilization or myofascial therapy.
